Justice ARL had his schooling in his native place in the Nagarathar High School which has a uniqueness of producing 6 High Court Judges. Graduated through St.Joseph College Tiruchirappally.Obtained his law degree from Law college Madras.He began his long legal career first under legal experts like Justice G. Ramanujam Justice K.Venkatasamy and the senior Advocate R. Krishnamurthy.

Justice ARL has many firsts in his Nagarathar Community to his credit:

He was the first ever Nagarathar appointed as the Government Pleader by the Government of Tamilnadu in 1989.

In the long history of almost two centuries he was the first Nagarathar to be appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Madras High Court in 1990 by His Excellency the President of India.

Among all the High Court Judges Justice ARL has the rare distinction of being the only Judge who served in Four High Courts Madras,Kerala, Rajasthan and Andrapradesh before he was elevated to the covetous position of Judge Supreme Court of India. After meritorious service he is now appointed the Chairman Law Commission of India. To mention a few covetous awards Jus ARL has received:Doctor of Laws from Annamalai University;Shironmani Vikas from H.E.Governor of Tamilnadu,Life Time Achievement Award from the Pesident of Mauratius, and Bharath Shironmani Award from H.E.the Governor of Orisa. Justice ARL is a prolific reader and writer of both Tamil and English and has publication of many books to his credit for which very eminent personalities, the former President of India, Dr.A.P.J.Abdhul Kalam; The Prime Minister of India,Dr.Manmohan Singh; The Chief Justice of India,Dr.K.G.Balakrishnan; The Union Minister of India,Thiru .P.Chidambaram have given their forwards.His recent book 'A Judge Speaks' was released by The President of India, Thirumathi.Prathibha Patil.He may be called 'The Gem' of Nagarathars. This gem of a man proudly declares ' My wife Smt Meenakshi is the source of all my strength and growth'
